Will I be competitive for a PhD program in Clinical Psychology if I have MA from a professional psych school?

I have been accepted into The Chicago School of Professional Psychology for a MA in Clinical Psychology. I am interested in doing research, however the school is not research oriented. The school offers a PsyD as oppose to the PhD. To be more competitive, I will complete a masters thesis even though it is not requried from the program. Will I be competitive for a PhD program in Clinical Psychology if I have a masters from a professional psychology school?

I received a big piece of advice from a professor and she made it very clear that the best thing you can do is try to get into a PhD program right away. A PsyD is not a good idea, and PhD isn't just for people who are research-oriented anymore (despite what most people think). Plus the Chicago school has a PhD program. Why didn't you just try for that program instead? Were you hoping to transfer to another school for your PhD? Did you want to try and get your master's first just in case?
Reply:Once you have a basic degree the rest is easy.
