If you believe death is the end of your consciousness, surely you then believe fertilisation is the beginning?

I'm not religious, but why is abortion, embryo research etc allowed, %26amp; those who are against them are thought of as religious nuts? Even though some embryos were going to be thrown away as clinical waste, how does that make it right to take their consciousness, cause them suffering %26amp; defile them further, often for mere financial gain? More diseases etc just come about, so what's the point? Humans are not made with suicidal or heroic tendencies, they aquire them after living in the outside world. They are made with a driving force to live. Science seems more of a fairytale than religion. Why are humans seen as lower life forms until 24wks of existance, when it's fact they are human %26amp; very much alive. At least until some doctor gets hold of them anyway. How can people use the nobody is perfect line, to even attempt to justify murder?

Is there some kind of pills I can take to be like most people %26amp; not give a cr*p, I'm desperate? And how can I do it w/o having to see a doctor, as they are part of the murder 'abortion' cycle.

If you believe death is the end of your consciousness, surely you then believe fertilisation is the beginning?
hmmm, often wondered about that. For my part I do believe life starts at conception.
Reply:1) Abortion is allowed because not eberyone who conceives a baby wants one. What about babies conceived following rape, or incest? Genetic diseases that would condemn a child to a life without quality? 2) Embryo research is vital for understanding genetic diseases and formulating cures/treatments. Not everyone who opposes abortion is thought of a religious nuts. I am not religious but I oppose on moral grounds. But then I've never been in a position I had to consider abortion so I don't judge those who choose to terminate a pregnancy I just know I wouldn't want to have to. Embryo's are not 'concious' until a particular stage of development although the cluster of cells could be considered a living human being. What have suicidal or heroic tendacies to do with abortion? These are emotional reactions to situations or experiences. They are choices, as is abortion. Science is clinical fact, religion is faith without proof. You seem very emotional and confused, perhaps counselling might help? Not all doctors will refer women for abortions as they are also morally opposed. Why judge anyone for having to make what must be a heartbreaking decision? Get some help and do some research to help clarify and formulate your opinions.
Reply:Your argument contains a fallacy. From the first premise that death is the end of your consciousness, it does not follow that fertilisation is the beginning. This is because the brain (a prerequisite for consciousness) is not present at the moment of fertilisation.
Reply:Fertilisation is NOT the beginning of consciousness. Where is the central nervous system in that first cell??

I challenge you to find any human being alive who is conscious of any experience in the womb!

Besides - consciousness can also be lost before death - what about a comotose state!
Reply:Alright, well um the issue being discussed here is not what I'd like to address in particular. But the way you state your question makes me want to respond in some way, so here goes.

I do not know what death is, because I am not a dead person. Which means I don't even know what life is or when it begins because I've got nothing to contrast it with. Ultimately, life and death are just ideas.

When I look into the world with this understanding (of not knowng) much of life seems utterly absurd. My own reactions (including this response) and all my thoughts are totally absurd. Yet something emerges from letting go of all the fantastic things I worry over and hope for. That something brings relief and an almost effortless composure.

I'm not saying anything goes. Far from it.
Reply:You should be careful with the way you say things to do with abortions etc. I have recently done courseowrk on it and it depends on when you believe life begins - ie conception birth etc.- to if you believe abortions are acceptable. Beliving that death is the end of consciousness has nothing to do with fertilisation. I believe that death is the end of conciousness; however, I also believe birth is the begining - this is because I believe that life begins when you are able to do that with out machines or the help of a mother (in the womb).

In order to consider abortion as murder (ending a life) you have to believe that the foetus is alive. In my case I dont believe abortions are murder as i believe life starts at birth. I am pro choice and I believe that is fair enough that others believe abortions are wrong but they musn't stop others from having them; it isn't fair! I mean just because you may believe kimo therapy is wrong doesnt give you the right to tell others they can't have it.

This is only my opinion and everyones opinions are different and we should respect this.

Reply:Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. That is what I believe and why I am not mad at you for all that stuff up there. I hope you will agree with me, and stop worrying about the beliefs of others.

Also, you will be happy to know, fetuses don't have to be killed to obtain stem cells. It has now been shown that stem cells can be derived from almost every kind of living tissue, even blood that can be obtained from a blood sample. Science isn't all evil.

By the way, just out of curiosity, what do you think of the death penalty?
Reply:Thats why we do not mixed science with religion since it is very contradictory, when we have health problems we sick medical advice,When everything seems so wrong that we become a bit confused we sick our spiritual leaders. We are entitled with our own views and opinions, but we try not get carried away with our thoughts,Do some research today about any scientific research and by the end of the day be thankful that we have amazing, amazing doctors, scientist in our times, and realize how God bless you with a questioning heart and be at peace with your self.
Reply:You are wrong on so many levels. There are some people like me that had to have an abortion because there baby was bearly alive at 5 weeks and the doctor had already said that the baby was going to die before it was born. so you need to not be a moron and think before you ask such hurtfull questions!
