Will receiving a masters in clinical psychology be competive enough to be accepted into a PhD program?

I have been accepted into The Chicago School of Professional Psychology for a MA in Clinical Psychology. I am interested in doing research, however the school is not research oriented. The school offers a PsyD as oppose to the PhD. To be more competitive, I will complete a masters thesis even though it is not requried from the program. Will I be competitive for a PhD program in Clinical Psychology if I have a masters from a professional psychology school?

if ur into research then that is great, becuz that is ur sure bet that you will get into a PhD program. Work on a research paper try to get it published. Masters thesis is great too. Build some bonds with professors and join an association like APA or ACA to build networks. This will give you more of an edge.
Reply:Yes. My mom went to USC School of Social Work, graduated with a Masters, went on to become a private practitioner, with a Clinical Licences in Psychology. After a few years she went back and got her PhD from USC.
