i am a freshmen in college right now and have been doing some career research for myself. i know the differences between a psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist but have heard that sometimes clinical psychologists can prescribe medicine. what are these circumstances?
any opinions on whether you think clinical psychologists should be able to do so [as things are now or if they are more intensely trained to do so in grad school]?
Clinical psychologists -prescribe medicine???
The majority of clinical psychologists do not/cannot legally prescribe medication.
In a few states, I believe, such as Hawaii and New Mexico, psychologist have gained prescription privileges provided they undertake intensive post-graduate coursework.
The whole idea of psychologists prescribing medicine is pretty controversial.
