Do you believe that Tom Cruise knows the history of Psychiatry?

"It is irresponsible for Mr. Cruise to use his movie publicity tour to promote his own ideological views and deter people with mental illness from getting the care they need...Rigorous, published, peer-reviewed research clearly demonstrates that treatment (of mental illness) works...It is unfortunate that in the face of this remarkable scientific and clinical progress that a small number of individuals and groups persist in questioning its legitimacy."

Do you believe that Tom Cruise knows the history of Psychiatry?
Yes, he knows the history but only up until about 1960. Back then things were different. Lobotomies and electroshock therapy. That is when hubbard made some observations about psychiatry and wrote about its barbaric practices. The problem is that Hubbards teachings are outdated but scientologists are not allowed to update their teachings and not allowed to question anything. Hubbard said whatever I say is true, dont question it and dont change it, then he died. So scientology is caught in a time warp of sorts. So scientologists go around preaching obsolete data. Not to say that modern psychiatry doesnt have its issues by overprescribing and suppressing others competing therapies. They certainly dont have the patients health as the first priority, the first is profit, then later down the list is the patient health. So this excludes other therapies that might be just as effective and healthier and cheaper in favor of profit. So unfortunately you cant trust anyone with an agenda.
Reply:He may know a little something about the history of Psychiatry...but that doesn't mean he is an expert in any way. Psychiatrists are MEDICAL DOCTORS and have years of medical school and training, etc...

Tom Cruise might be able to PORTRAY a Psychiatrist in a film...but in the real world, he is a ridiculous-looking fool for chastising Matt Lauer in the interview when he tries to convince the world that he knows so much about mental health, medications or anything else.

He's a good-looking man who likes to play pretend and dress-up for a living....need I say more?
Reply:I do not know if Tom Cruise knows the history, but I certainly do both from professional and personal experience. It is not as barbaric as it used to be, but there is still a lot of chemical castrations going on and abuse of power. Better watch the video.

Reply:No, he knows the version of psychiatric history his "Church" tells him, but nothing more. He can say whatever he wants, but we should keep in mind he is only doing it as a spokesperson for his business/cult.

Anonymous has declared war on the Church of Scientology – ask them why

Reply:I'm sure he knows quite a bit about a version of the history. However, history isn't medical science.

Tom Cruise is in denial about his own mental health issues, I think. The guy also does a lot of harm w/his anti-psychiatrist bs. I just can't help but think he had a bad psych experience as a kid.
Reply:Tom Cruise is into Scientology, which is against psychiatry.

This cult has very bizarre beliefs and is a detrimental organization that bilks people for money and messes up their lives. You can learn more about this organization here:

So no, I don't think anyone should listen to Tom Cruise's advice.
Reply:Regardless of Tom Cruise there are some major issues with psychiatry. Here is an international peer review site of psychiatrists and psychologists who practically blow the whistle on the profession.

Reply:Every one has the right to their opinion. Just because he is more visible than many does not mean that you have to listen to him or believe in him. Kind of like Bush. NO?
Reply:I dont care what he knows. I cant stand him.
Reply:Nah. He's just glib.
Reply:i agree. he is glib.
